Last July, our 2022 Gordon Stephenson Trophy winners, Jocelyn and Phillip Everest of Flemington Farm in Canterbury, embarked on their MPI study tour, visiting farms, universities, research institutions and policy makers through the United States of America, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.

Their study focused largely on nitrate loss reduction and greenhouse gas mitigations and management.

Key among their findings was the idea that there is some great research going on around the world which could help us address some of our environmental challenges. They also found that here in New Zealand we are very good at turning grass into product, but we are not very good at celebrating it. Generally, New Zealand pastoral farming meets many of the regenerative standards overseas.

Why are we missing this marketing opportunity?
