This family-owned winery is guided by a clear vision that focuses on the sustainability of the business, environmental stewardship and people – all while producing top-quality wines.  

The 12ha property features a winery and 8.5ha vineyard. Located near Hastings in the Bridge Pa Triangle wine-growing district, it is owned and operated by Leith and Tracy Ashworth, with the support of family and staff.  

Leith’s philosophy is guided by a desire to leave the land better than he found it – translating into a multi-faceted approach to viticulture. The property boasts accredited sustainable and organic certifications, exceeding basic requirements. Leith is actively exploring a transition to fully organic winemaking this year. 

The vineyard operates as a self-sustaining ecosystem, with most additives sourced from the property itself. Sheep, cattle, and chickens play vital roles, naturally fertilising, weeding, and controlling pests – not to mention, entertaining guests. This integrated approach minimises the need for synthetic inputs, reduces tractor use, and ultimately lowers the business’s carbon footprint. 

Beyond the environmental focus, Leith and Tracy prioritise their team. There’s a strong emphasis on staff well-being, including training programmes and a supportive culture – fostering a positive and productive work environment. 

Ash Ridge has demonstrated resilience in the face of challenging weather events in recent years. By diversifying grape varieties and implementing low-input practices, Ash Ridge has consistently continued to produce high-quality wines. 

Looking ahead, Leith is continuing to innovate, exploring biodynamic principles, trialling cover crops, and implementing cultural viticulture practices to further enhance biodiversity.
