Hauiti Farm

The couple behind this successful East Coast beef farm are guided by a farming philosophy that is deeply entrenched in soil health and biology.
Hauiti Farm is owned and managed by Wayne and Nicky Breeze, and run together with farm manager Kris Williams. Nicky and Wayne’s journey into farming began 23 years ago with no prior agricultural experience. Today, that blank slate has evolved into a sophisticated Angus operation where success is measured from the ground up – quite literally.
The 242ha (220ha effective) property is used to breed and finish heavy steers, with most sent to the works between 18 and 20 months of age.
The team’s “one winter” finishing system is a key driver of efficiency, allowing for a material increase in cow numbers while significantly lowering the emissions footprint per kilogram of beef produced.
Viewing themselves as custodians rather than landowners, Wayne and Nicky have developed a farming philosophy that is built on a foundation of soil health and biology. Guided by experts in holistic soil management, the operation focuses on unlocking the potential of soil microbiology to grow nutrient-dense pasture.
This biological foundation supports a high-performance genetic strategy. With the support of genetic experts, the business sells in-calf capital stock that are backed by rigorous data on progeny performance. This ensures that every animal leaving the property represents a verified investment in quality.
There’s a strong focus on sustainability at Hauiti which has had FAP+ Gold certification since 2023. The decision to remove sheep entirely from the operation allowed for the complete retirement of permanent waterways, drastically improving freshwater management.
This is complemented by solar generation, a low-waste policy, and a legacy of native planting on steep, retired areas.
Through a blend of data-driven genetics and biological stewardship, Hauiti has proven that focusing on soil health is one of the fastest routes to a resilient, high-output business.
