Rain fails to dampen spirits at Canterbury Supreme Winner’s Open Day

23 Feb 2023

More than 200 people braved the weather in Canterbury yesterday to see for themselves the operation behind 2022’s Gordon Stephenson Trophy winners. Phillip, Jocelyn and Paul Everest and Sarah Hayman hosted visitors from across the Canterbury region at Flemington Farm, giving them an insight into their sustainable beef and dairy business.

The Ashburton family took out the Supreme Award in last year’s Canterbury Balance Farm Environment Awards, as well as becoming National Ambassadors for Sustainable Farming and Growing as recipients of the Gordon Stephenson Trophy.

At the time, the national judging panel noted the Everests’ impressive understanding of their GHG emissions and metrics, “stepping through their calculations around various scenarios and demonstrating a clear understanding of their requirements and options to address this.”

“It’s great to have our National Sustainability Ambassadors sharing their knowledge and dairy farm operation with the wider community,” says New Zealand Farm Environment Trust General Manager Sarah Harris.

“The Everest family are outstanding exemplars for the farming industry, championing farming practices that protect and enhance the environment not only on their own farm but within their community.”
