Open Days
Waikato Regional Supreme Winner Open Day – Otorohaea
5 May 2026
Fiona & Jon Sherlock of Otorohaea
Otorohaea is a 660ha sheep and beef farm with a strong focus on long-term sustainability. Now in its third generation of Sherlock family ownership, the farm is managed by Jon and Fiona Sherlock on behalf of the wider family.
In recent years, the operation has undergone significant change. A move toward cell grazing, supported by virtual fencing technology, has enabled more precise management of stock across steep terrain. This has improved pasture utilisation while supporting soil health and ground cover.
Environmental management is also a key focus. All waterways, wetlands and sensitive areas have been retired from grazing, with native regeneration and planting underway.
Otorohaea is also part of an AgResearch hill-country project, contributing data and insights to support the development of more sustainable grazing systems.
